| q1. What is a survey? |
A survey is a set of questions normally used to collect information (e.g., staff or client perceptions, Leadership, HR information, financial data). |
q2. How do you design a survey? |
The normal ways of developing a survey are (1) decide on your target issues and then generate a range of questions to address them, (2) obtain advice/text/research to help guide your development of questions, or (3) use a survey that already exists. We can help you in any of these areas by (1) reviewing your question set and making suggestions for modification, (2) sending you relevant documentation on areas of interest [with or without summary], or (3) we have access to a range of surveys (e.g., climate/culture surveys) that you can use to avoid copyright issues and to cut lead times. For those looking for more rigourous testing and instrument publication, Ardjuna staff have extensive psychometric, norming, and validation experience using sample groups and statistical techniques. We apply these principles to the development of our own surveys. |
q3. What is the best method of delivering a survey to potential respondents? |
Online surveying is definitely cheaper for large surveys and is also more easily managed. At any point in time you can get your response rate and if clients are entering their own responses directly into a database you don't have to pay for data to be transcribed from the paper surveys. We can deliver online surveys via the web or intranet at any location in the world. Other major advantages of online surveys are the savings include (1) postage, (2) printing, (3) project management, and (4) time frames. We can have a survey up in 24 hours and ready to go. There is one major restriction however, respondents need to be able to access a computer with internet/intranet access. Paper & Pencil surveys, for those who don't have access to the web we can mail out a copy of the survey with a reply paid envelope. Our data entry staff quickly turn the data around using double entry software to check for accuracy. But you can also use phone/fax/emails as methods of delivery and return - we can set up any of these options. |
q4. What types of analysis can be applied? |
All types of analysis of the data are available to you. Both quantitative(numbers) and qualitative (comments) data analyses are possible. The most common form of analysis is means and standard deviations (as well as straight forward counts) for quantitative data and thematic analysis of qualitative data.Regional analyses, crosstabulations, sub-reports, and statistical analyses are also commonly used depending on the aims. Benchmarking is another service that is often requested. If you need benchmarking then you have access to some of the largest data sets in the Oceania region. With over 100,000 people who have used our climate/culture surveys, over 20,000 people who have completed our leadership/management surveys, and over 10,000 people who have completed our knowledge management surveys you can compare your results to a wide range of industry and government. Of course, we always suggest that the best benchmark you can have is your own over time. |
